The Store: hardware specification

We need large storage capability while keeping noise at a minimum. The latter requirements does not let us choose from usual server racks.

There are not many chassis around to satisfy those requirements.

Lian Li PC-D8000 is one of those, and it has an excellent aluminum built.

Chassis specifications:

CASE TYPE Full tower chassis

We need to manage 20 drives. The adapter must be compatible with FreeBSD. We can use the 16-port Adaptec HBA 1000-16i card, which is in any case expandable.

Hard Drives

We need to optimise storage space: the higher the capacity the better. But noise, temperature and vibrations are very important, too.

12TB drives are out, thus 10TB drives have become more affordable.

Since WD RED PRO 10TB have same noise as regular 10TB, they are a better choice by offering a hopefully longer life.

Western Digital recommends the PRO line for up to 16 Drives, while the non-pro line for up to 8 drives, so we really have no choice.
