A sweet recollection of Sri Chinmoy's thoughtfulness, by Kanan Roberts
We recorded this story with Kanan for Conversation-Hearts. Alas, it was too short for that show, so I am able to publish it here:
A sweet remembrance of Sri Chinmoy's loving thoughtfulness offering a rose.
I must say, I am honoured and privileged to be one of Kanan's friends.
I met him one day in August 1990, the first time I travelled to New York, while he was cleaning up after a public function. I offered to help, not knowing how much he would have helped me from that day on.
One day, perhaps, I will tell of this inconspicuous gentleman who, to me at least, is a veritable selfless service hero, a florist with exquisite sense of beauty, a true-blue God-lover who, quiet and unnoticed, is always there to help whomever is in need, never to linger for acknowledgement, always with a kind word, a soulful smile, a caring gesture.
One day, maybe. I would not want to embarrass him -- he is quite shy of public attention.

Kanan's kindness
I fully support your awareness of Kanan's kindness. Over the years he has on so many occassions offered his thoughtfulness, gestures, gifts and sincerity to me.
It is always a great pleasure to see him each celebrations and in his own quiet simple and self-giving way he touches the heart's of all who enter his fragrant domain.
Cheers,
Sahayak
