New Year resolutions
Submitted by Priyadarshan on Tue, 01/01/2008 - 00:00.
I must thank Savyasachi for reminding me how much Guru likes to listen to our New Year resolutions. Sri Chinmoy enjoyed it so much when his students spoke about their new resolutions (both personal and manifestation wise) at those precious Christmas Trip functions.
So, here are some of my resolutions for the New Year (I know they may seem puny to you, but I rather be realistic and achieve those, than heroic and achieve little or none).
My resolutions for the New Year 2008
Physical plane
- walk 1 long walk (more than 1 hour) at least once a week;
- lose at least 1 pound a month;
- wake up at 5 a.m. every single day, no matter what.
Vital plane
- practice a complete hatha yoga routine at least once a week (but I have to learn the asanas. Sandesh is helping me with those);
- (if I will have any money) learn wind-surfing just for the innocent joy of the water and the wind (perhaps Atmasamarpan will teach me?);
- (if I will have any money) go skiing at least once in the whole year, just for the purity and fragrance of the snow.
Mental plane
- read at least one of Guru's books each week;
- learn by heart at least one of Guru's writings or songs each week;
- exercise memory and imagination (the way Guru taught us, through concentration) every day.
Heart plane
- every day: I will try my utmost to be as happy a disciple as I can possibly be. I know that is the only way Guru is going to be really happy with me;
- every morning, finished my meditation, I will look at the day in front of me with gratitude for whatever will happen. I will be grateful to the new day the Supreme is offering, his unconditional gift. I will feel in my heart its newness and its fragrant freshness. I will offer to the new day and to the Supreme my deepest gratitude, and smile the best smile I can;
- every night, before my meditation starts, I will look at what I have done, and feel if Guru is happy with me, and I will forgive myself if I am not happy with my own self. I will also smile the best smile I can.

New Year Resolutions
Priyadarshan, this is wonderful!
I had resolved not to do any resolutions, but now, after reading what you wrote, I have changed my mind.
Thanks for the inspiration!

New Year's resolution
I saw your inspiring New Year's resolutions and I admire your goals. Although I don't see myself getting up every morning at 5 am, I still try to make my tiny resolution: I want to be on nobody's shoulder anymore and want to try dancing through each step of my life always with the constant guidance of my dear Guru.

New Year's resolution
Since I read it again and again the 5 a.m. resolution, I must say you are right, very right. I think this is the most effective resolution in terms of getting the golden hours.
-When I get up early in the morning, my God most affectionately says to me: "My child, I shall do everything for you." When I get up late in the morning, my God says to me: "My child, you be the doer and the enjoyer as well." -Sri Chinmoy
"This Year please do not recite and repeat the motto: I have tried my best. That motto is obsolete now. The new motto is: I am going to fulfil my Lord Beloved Supreme without fail this Year. This new motto kindly repeat seven times a day with your mind's utmost sincerity and with your heart's utmost purity. Please remember: with your mind's utmost sincerity and with your heart's utmost purity. Seven times at different hours, please repeat this." -Sri Chinmoy Los Angeles Airport, 28 January 1991
New year resolution
As one of your noble intentions, please grace our centre with your physical presence as well--your prayers and our sincerity will find a way.
Oxford
And this year don't forget a visit to the British Isles, which I hope will include a visit to Oxford!
Pilgrimage
A visit certainly there will be, nay, a pilgrimage, to Oxford, and of course, Ipswich.
