Mauna - Silence

Mauna has been described by Sankara as one of the three essential attributes
of a sanyasi, along with Balya -- childlike state and Panditya -- wisdom.

According to Ramana Maharshi, Mauna is a state beyond speech and thought, it is
"living without the ego-sense", and He made silence the medium of spiritual instruction.

Sri Chinmoy has composed hundreds of songs about silence and writings on silence.

To me, Mauna -- Silence -- is the most sublimely haunting beauty of the spiritual path. There is nothing as deeply enriching, soul-quenching, heart-charming, life-satisfying. Once it touches the inner chords of the being, it leaves an indelible golden mark, a stirring, a longing, a thirst which in itself is unfathomable blessing.
